Hear Chris with Hilary Harper on ABC Radio 774Saturday 12th March - (7.15am to 7.45am) during the Health and Fitness programme. Chris Wheeler, accredited podiatrist of the Brunswick and Sandringham Foot Clinics will be discussing why heel pain hurts. Heel pain is a major reason why people go to see a podiatrist. Chris Wheeler will talk about the many and varied causes of heel pain and provide guidance about what could be done to help you to recover from your heel pain and to make even those first few steps of walking in the morning a more comfortable experience. Painful heels can be due to the problems such as splinters and warts to the counter of the shoe rubbing against a lumpy back of the heel to cause a blister or a bursa. Heel pain can afflict young children when the growth plate of the heel bone of a young footballer running on the hard surface of a footy field at the beginning of the season is damaged. Young mums', trying too hard to loose the flab of having a baby can develop a stress reaction of the calcaneum. People who have torn the attachment of the plantar fascia will know the pain in the arch of the foot and at the front of the heel with the first few steps of walking after rest and sleeping. |
