One in five workplace claims are due to an injury to the lower limbs, including the feet and toes. Working feet are vulnerable to injury and the conditions in your work environment may exacerbate foot problems. Shoes and boots that are worn for work can often cause more problems. To meet the legal requirements of occupational health and safety, your employer may require you to wear safety boots - hard wearing boots that have steel toe caps and robust, non-slip soles. There are limited choices available in the fit of safety boots because of the requirements for this footwear to meet Australian Standards. Thus, many people wear safety boots that do not suit the shape of their feet because of bunions, clawed and retracted toes and the like. In the interests of harmony, factory owners have been known to insist that all staff, including their receptionists wear safety boots even though their receptionist may never venture forth to the factory floor. In spite of the long hours that staff members are required to stand in the retail sector, many staff will choose to or be required to wear fashionable shoes which are usually not suited to long hours of standing on a hard surface. If you are sufferin from sore feet from your working shoes you should visit one of our podiatrists because we can advise on more appropriate footwear and help you to manage your pain. |
