Falls And Balance

Falls And Balance

Studies have shown that from the age of 65 the average Australian will endure a bad fall at least once per year. Whilst a bad fall may not lead to permanent injury, a fall can really shake your confidence.

As the feet are the part of the body which are in the greatest contact with the ground, it is important to have a stable platform upon which to walk. If you have had a fall, the role of orthotic therapy augmented with exercises to improve your sense of stability, will enhance your recovery and help you to loose if not control any residual fear of habitual falling. The loss of independence which can follow a fall can be disabling.

Balance exercises such as standing on one leg (whilst watching the television) and stretching exercises (especially the calf muscles), are important for they will greatly reduce the likelihood of you catching your toes (and falling) as you walk. We can advise you not only about what can be done to improve the stability of your feet but also provide you with the contact details of a Falls and Balance programme in your area.
