Sports Podiatry Injuries Strathmore

Sports Injuries

Sports Injuries

Whilst the most common sports podiatry injuries are shin splints, achilles tendonitis, knee cap pain (runner’s knee), ankle sprain and plantar fasciitis or heel pain, there are many more.

Sports podiatry covers two primary areas:

1. Foot and lower limb overuse injuries.
2. Mechanical performance enhancement to minimise injury and to maximize efficiency.

Why should I see a sports podiatrist?

Our podiatrists are trained to assess your biomechanics (the way you move) and to identify potential problems to reduce the risk of future injury. They will assess your movement using our video gait analysis and specific testing. Their assessment will reveal whether your leg
alignment and leg stability is ‘normal’ and sufficient for performing your particular sport.

Overuse injuries

If you have a niggling injury to your feet or legs, it is likely to be caused by a mechanical problem or imbalance in your body. Our podiatrist will determine the cause of your imbalance and recommend treatment to relieve your pain and to prevent further injury. Treatment
may include stretches, shockwave therapy to hasten recovery and orthotic therapy to correct an imbalance.may include stretching exercises, shockwave therapy to hasten recovery and orthotic therapy to correct an imbalance.

Performance enhancement

Whether you are a recreational runner or a professional sportsperson who wants to prevent injury and maximize performance, a biomechanical assessment by our experienced team of podiatrist can be useful. We will often work closely with other health care practitioners for many leg and foot problems are secondary to problems in the lower back and pelvis.
